About
Turning what a place holds into something you can travel through.
About KAHACHI
A destination producer and licensed local travel operator in Kanazawa, editing the culture, food and people of Kanazawa and Noto into journeys.
Every place holds value that has not yet been turned into travel. KAHACHI draws culture, food and encounters with people into a single story, and builds an experience out of it.
Our work is to treat what a place has not as a "tourist resource" but as something a person will remember. Travellers get an evening that stays with them; the district gets new visitors and new income.
We work in Higashi Chaya and Kazuemachi — an area you can cross on foot — and nowhere else. What we have instead of reach is that we actually know the people and the rooms inside it.
How we think about travel
Sightseeing means bringing your own light
The Japanese word for sightseeing, kankō, means to look at something by shining a light on it. Whatever the subject, it becomes worth seeing once you bring your own curiosity to it. Our job is to stay beside you and help you aim that light.
Know it, like it, enjoy it
First you come to know a place, then to like it, and finally to enjoy it. The last of those is the one worth reaching, and the order matters.
Everyone, the same way
When you book, we ask for your name, your contact details, how many are coming and any dietary requirements. Nothing else. We do not ask about your relationship to the people you are travelling with, and we use the name and title you give us, exactly as you give them.
A door usually closed to first-time visitors
Geiko culture normally operates on ichigen-san okotowari — no first-time guests without an introduction. Working with the Asanogawa Enyukai, KAHACHI opens that door and carries the evening on through the restaurants and the night bars of the teahouse district. A private ozashiki with geiko, in a teahouse you could not otherwise enter, can also be arranged.
