FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The questions guests ask most often before booking. Anything not covered here, write to info@kahachi.com.
Booking
- How far in advance do I need to book?
- At least 10 days before the date. We confirm the geiko, the restaurant, the bar and the guide ahead of the day, so we cannot accept bookings after that point. The calendar on the reservation form only shows dates that are still open.
- Are the MEET the GEIKO performance dates fixed?
- Yes. There are 118 dates between 26 September 2026 and 21 December 2027 (30 in 2026, 88 in 2027). Plans that include the performance must be booked on one of those dates, shown in the calendar. Plans without the performance — sushi, kaiseki, the teahouse bar, and Special Plans A and B — can be booked on other days.
- Can I join without speaking Japanese?
- Booking, payment and pre-arrival information are handled in English or Japanese. On the evening itself, an English-speaking guide joins you for the night walk through the teahouse district. There is no interpreter at the meal or at the bar.
- How do I pay?
- By credit card, in advance, through this website. We accept VISA, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club and Discover, and debit cards on those networks. We do not take payment on the day, in cash, or by QR code.
Plans and prices
- How do I choose a plan?
- There are three kinds. Single experiences — sushi, kaiseki, or the teahouse bar on their own. Special Plans A and B, which run from the meal through the night walk to the bar. And plans built around the geiko performance. Plans for guests who already hold a performance ticket are listed on a separate page.
- What is and is not included in the price?
- Prices are per guest and include tax. They cover the meal, admission and drinks listed on each plan, along with travel insurance. They do not cover transport to the meeting point, or any food and drink ordered beyond what the plan includes.
- What is the minimum number of guests?
- It depends on the plan. Plans that include sushi require a minimum of 4 guests and take up to 8. Plans with kaiseki take 2 to 20. The teahouse bar on its own takes 2 to 12. Each plan card shows its own range.
- Why do some plans say “Price on request”?
- The geiko-and-kaiseki plan and the geiko-and-sushi plan vary in price depending on what we arrange, so they are booked by request. Tell us your preferred date and party size and we will send a quote.
On the evening
- Where do we meet?
- Once your booking is confirmed, we email the meeting point and time to the address you registered. Plans that include the geiko performance begin at 16:30 at Asanogawa Enyukai Hall in Higashiyama, Kanazawa.
- What does the evening look like?
- On a full plan with the performance: 16:30 the geiko performance, 17:30 the meal, 19:30 a twenty-minute walk through the teahouse district after the crowds have gone, and 20:00 a last drink in a bar inside a former teahouse. Single plans cover only their own part of that evening. The teahouse bar on its own starts at 20:00.
- What happens if it rains?
- We do not cancel for rain alone — we provide traditional wagasa umbrellas for the night walk. If a typhoon, earthquake or heavy snow makes it unsafe to run the evening, we refund the full amount.
- What if I am running late?
- If you arrive after the meeting time you may miss part of the evening, and we cannot refund that portion. If you are unsure about getting there, tell us in advance and we will help.
Changes and cancellation
- What are the cancellation fees?
- Free up to 8 days before the date. 50% of the total from 7 to 2 days before. 100% on the day before, on the day itself, and for a no-show without notice. Timing is judged against the date of the experience, in Japan Standard Time.
- How do I cancel?
- Email info@kahachi.com from the address you used to book. We use the time your message reaches us. To avoid anything being missed, we do not accept cancellation by phone alone.
- Can I change the number of guests?
- If you reduce the number, the same cancellation rates apply to the difference. If you want to add guests, contact us first and we will check whether it can be arranged.
- What if the minimum number of guests is not met?
- We will tell you by 7 days before the date, cancel the booking, and refund the full amount.
- How long does a refund take?
- We refund the amount less any cancellation fee to the card you paid with. Depending on your card issuer it can take from a few days to about a month to appear. We cover the refund fees.
